This was what Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor said when she delivered the commencement address at Hostos Community College yesterday.
In addition to her collegiate duties, she also had a Bronx Housing Project, Bronxdale Houses renamed after her and attended a ceremony at her high school.
As a former New York City Project Kid myself, I can appreciate how this step can help to inspire not only current residents of Bronxdale, but also children all over the city to aspire and dream big.
Why is it that in 2010, that more women than men are attending college, yet college educated women still earn less than men?
I stumbled across this post , that women with a community college degree earn less than men with no degree?
What kind of message does this send young women? That having a college degree doesn’t provide you with the same respect than a man with no credentials?
Also speaking as a woman in technology, what message does this give? That careers in IT are not ideal for women?
This is all the more reason that visibility needs to be raised for women. If they are women than men in the classroom, shouldn’t that also be acknowledged salary wise?
