The Huffington Post covers Plagiarism

Students in a computer lab.

I have spoken about my experiences as an adjunct professor regarding plagiarism.  Recently, the Huffington Post wrote a post  – More Students Misunderstand The Fundamentals Of Plagiarism.

Colleges and Professors need to know that their students can form their own opinions and plagiarism is a dissolution of any original thought.

This was what  Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor said when she delivered  the commencement address at Hostos Community College yesterday.

In addition to her collegiate duties, she also had a Bronx Housing Project, Bronxdale Houses renamed after her and attended a ceremony at her high school.

As a former New York  City Project Kid myself, I can appreciate how this step can help  to inspire not only current residents of Bronxdale, but also children all over  the city to aspire and dream big.

Women with College Degrees Earn Less than Men with No Degree

Posted in graduates, Soapbox

Why is it  that in 2010, that more women than men are attending college, yet college educated women still earn less than men?

I stumbled across this post , that women  with a community college degree earn less than men with no degree?

What kind of message does this send young women? That having a college degree doesn’t provide you with the same respect than a man with no credentials?

Also speaking as a woman in  technology, what message does this give? That careers in IT are not ideal for women?

This is all the more reason that visibility needs to be raised for women. If they are women than men in the classroom, shouldn’t that also be acknowledged salary wise?
